As the oldest such establishment in the entire municipality, it played a key role in the development of the local brewing industry. As early as 1477, the Tavern was granted the right to sell wine and beer by Henry I the Elder, Prince of Ziębice and the Count of Kłodzko. It also had important cultural functions. It was here that the first secular library in the town was established. From the 18th century onwards, the Tavern opened its doors to a great many troupes of artists. Among the plays performed here were those composed by Karl von Holtei, who admired Tadeusz Kościuszko and was respected for his friendship for the people of Poland.
